Rug Pads
Every great rug deserves a high-quality rug pad. Rug pads not only extend the life of your rug, but also the life of your floors. Without a rug pad, your rug could be slipping and sliding across your beautiful hardwood floors. Rugs and rug pads should be a packaged deal when buying a new rug. Without one, your rug and your floors won’t survive.
With high traffic areas, kids or pets, dry soil can work its way through a rug and get “stuck” in between a rug and the floor. This soil can scratch the hardwood without the owner ever noticing until it’s too late. You don’t want to be forced to always use a rug, because your floors beneath are ruined. Take the precautions necessary to ensure your rugs and hardwood floors stay in pristine condition.
Unfortunately, we at Heirloom Rug Cleaning of NC have witnessed the effects of this scratching on the floors. For those owners of a tufted rug, the latex that holds the backing and fibers together can start to delaminate and settle on the floors. This will leave a “yellow” residue on the floors that is very hard to clean off, and if not caught soon enough, will leave a permanent stain on the floors.
Recommendations
We recommend a durable “full” rug pad for every rug. We don’t recommend the “waffle” rug pads due to the latex and dry soil being able to go through the holes and onto the floors. We have rug pads from multiple distributors that we have found to be the best on the market.
Ask an associate about the differences between a “waffle” pad and a “full” pad. Don’t let your rug sit too long right on the floor and allow the “scratching” to occur.
